Dr. Arlt is a medical doctor and scientist at Hamburg University. He is affiliated with Psychiatry Department and with the Department of Molecular Cell Biology, Institute of Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, headed by Professor Ulrike Beisiegel, a renowed international expert in the field of lipids, lipoproteins, and lipoprotein receptors.

Dr.Arlt main research topics are i) the role of lipid peroxidation in plasma, cerebrospinal fluid and the central nervous system in Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders, and ii) the clinical use of antioxidants (such as vitamin C and vitamin E) to prevent lipid peroxidation. Other research areas include physiology and pathophysiology of lipoproteins and their receptors in the central nervous system.
