Dr. Michikawa is working on the subject comprising the journal scope for many years. His contribution includes elucidation of i) the role of Niemann-Pick disease type C1 protein in cholesterol metabolism and tau phosphorylation in neurons, ii) the interaction of amyloid beta-protein with cellular cholesterol and phospholipid metabolism, iii) the association of amyloid beta-protein biology with high-density-lipoproteins (HDL), and iv) the role of cholesterol in the amyloid cascade, a widely accepted concept for initiation and promotion of the pathology in Alzheimer's disease.
