KATSUHIKO YANAGISAWA, MD
based in Aichi, Japan
Dr. Yanagisawa is working on the subject of molecular pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. His contribution to this research area includes elucidation of i) generation of seed amyloid beta-protein through its interaction with membrane lipid (ganglioside), ii) molecular basis underlying cholesterol-dependent acceleration of beta-amyloidogenesis, and iii) pathogenic role of apolipoprotein E in the development of Alzheimer's disease through its isoform-dependent modulation of cholesterol dynamics.
Key words: Alzheimer's disease, amyloid beta-protein, membrane lipids, ganglioside, cholesterol, apolipoprotein E, animal model
